The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development partnership agency of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region. ARC’s mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia.

ARC’s Appalachia Nonprofit Resource Center is now offering expertly curated resources on financial management, sustainable operations, fundraising, and other tools free of charge. The resource directory is primarily responsive to the specific needs of Appalachian nonprofits during the COVID crisis and will be continually updated throughout 2021.
300,000+ Data Points on Appalachia
The Appalachian Region: A Data Overview from the 2015-2019 American Community Survey, also known as “The Chartbook,” draws from the most recent American Community Survey and comparable Census Population Estimates. The report contains over 300,000 data points about Appalachia’s demographics, income, and employment, as well as education, computer access, housing, and more—all presented at regional, subregional, state, and county levels.

J-1 Visa Waiver Program
ARC is committed to helping residents of Appalachia have access to quality, affordable health care. Accordingly, under certain conditions, ARC will consider recommending a waiver of the foreign residence requirement on behalf of physicians holding J-1 Visas in Health Professional Shortage Areas to address the Region’s healthcare needs.
